Plex Media Pleayer resources used

Post by MikeG.6.5 »

OK, been doing a lot of testing with Plex Media Player, especially with the 1.2.0 version recently released and made available by @father.mande.

My testing so far shows that PMP uses about 15% average CPU on my 7004T to stream media. This does NOT take into account any transcoding if it's required. This is handled by the Plex New Transcoder, which is reported out as a separate process in NetData with the edits I have in that forum.

This makes it even more important to ensure your media is as Direct Playable as possible, because on smaller CPU'd machines, they might very well not have enough resources to both stream and play at the same time if transcoding.

This test was done on a video that required transcoding. I will follow up with Direct Play on another test and let people know the results here.

It would be very interesting to see these results on a 610x or 620x model to understand how feasible it is to use these as a HT NAS.
