NextCloud 19 and External Storage

I have installed the NextCloud app and wanted to add the shares on my NAS.
My NAS is the AS5304T.
I had nextcloud running on my Windows Home Server and to add my shared folders I had to use the External Storage app in Nextcloud.
When I install External Storage to the NAS Nextcloud I get a warning that the smbclient is not installed.
I have used portainer to console into the container and have tried to install smbclient with PECL and apt-get with no success.

Am I going about adding my shares in the eight way or should it be done some other way.

Please help.
