Intense HDD activity at midnight

Every day at midnight the 4 disks of my NAS is really crunching like there is no tomorrow. Does so for 10 mins or so. I can't see anything in the activity monitor, just seems like the NAS is in normal operation. How can I find out what is accessing my disks every night? I assume it's some maintenance or raid check or something...

Same for me ( AS5002T with 2 2Tb disks ) and nothing in crontab at this time... It would be interesting to check process list at this time.

Been having this problem for a long time. I've tried debugging it, but some of the internal asustor linux programs don't create logs. I've set up a reboot schedule to stop mine from running wild.

Probably the NSA or some other government browsing through your NAS......
