RAM 2 x 8GB

Post by KiT »

Good Afternoon Everyone,
I've purchased NAS6204T and I wonder about upgrade RAM to 2 x 8GB. I know that the official limitation is 8GB only. But maybe someone tried it and it could work?
Thanks for help,

Regards,
Robert

I doubt it will work. The CPU in the 620x series is the Intel Celeron N3150. The maximum memory that the chip itself can physically address is 8GB. More info here: http://ark.intel.com/products/87258/Int ... o-2_08-GHz Pan down a ways it tells you in there.

Putting in 2x8GB means you are likely going to be using either 4 from each stick or the full 8 from the first stick, if the machine even boots up successfully. Even booting successfully would be in question, IMO. I certainly wouldn't rely on it not corrupting data or some other critical thing if the memory is wrong.

Rather this spec is defining the RAM size per channel:
http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/07/12/ ... 60-and-up/
http://www.amazon.com/N3150-16GB-Blueto ... B013FP8EYA

By the way I have this CPU configured with 16GB RAM on another platform (second link)

If that's the max memory per channel and the chip can handle 2 channels, then I guess it would likely work... Unless there is a physical limitation on the board itself preventing more.

Going off the specs I linked earlier it doesn't say per channel, it implies max memory over-all. It may be worth trying, then...

Learn something new every day... :) Glad it worked for you.

Now I wonder if I can get my i3 7004T to see 32GB instead of just 16?

Hello,

I'm trying to realize was the topic just a joke or not. For information, memory must be: SODIMM DDR3L 1600MHz CL11 1.35V not ECC. For example it could be Kingston KVR16LS11/8. However, very unlikely it will give 16GB it total for this CPU. Intel says directly: CPU N3150 (and even J3160 in the last models of the Asus) supports 8GB MAX.

But still interesting if anybody tried to put 2 x 8GB into AS62xx series. Can we see evidence? For example screenshot of the System Information page? :)

Thank you,
Max
