Replace one disk, with a larger one - fail

Post by Egosumquisum »

Asustor 6104T
ADM 3.5.5.RFC3
Raid 5 with 4*2TB disks

One disk has bad sector so I decided to replace it and I bought a larger one (Seagate Ironwolf 4TB) in order to expand entire volume capacity by the year's end with three more 4TB disks.

I know that until I don't get the four disks, volume capacity remains 4*2TB and

I tried to hot swap, the new disk is recognized but stay "inactive".
I reformatted the disk (thought it could be a chance) but nothing changed.
Tried to follow this topic https://www.asustor.com/online/College_topic?topic=352 but it's about to expand the entire volume.

I didn't find anything which deals with replacing only one disk with a larger one.

Maybe I have to format the $TB disk with two 2TB volumes?

Thanks for your answer and sorry for my tech english

Did you replace disk (hot swap) when NAS is working?
I did the process long time ago. It works fine without any problems. It's hard to know what causes problem without detailed log. I think you can send a support request to asustor. They can gather detailed information remotely. https://support.asustor.com/
