Does CrashPlan need internet connection on NAS to work?

Hello.
I installed CrashPlan as explained on NAS and on my desktop, but I can't seem to get it to work.
After looking at the Logs in the NAS, it seems that its trying to authenticate my login (from desktop client) using Crashplan.com.
My NAS is in my LAN, but not connected to the Internet. Could this be the problem?

If so, is there any workaround for this?

Also, I was unable to find verison 4.5 of CrashPlan to download for Windows. Only the latest version (4.8) was available for download at CrashPlan.com
