Backing up files with Unicode filenames

Post by sillysheep »

There seems to be an issue with backing up files that have names encoded in utf-8.

Reproduction steps...

1. Place the attached file with UTF-8 encoded name on to the NAS.
2. Have Crashplan (Asustor v1.2.0) attempt to backup this file to the cloud.
3. Delete the file from the NAS.
4. Attempt to restore the backed up file from the cloud.

Result: Cannot restore the file. File is not part of the backup.
Expected: File should be restored.

Is there a way to configure Crashplan to backup files with encoded file names?

can you look at /usr/local/AppCentral/crashplan/CONTROL/start-stop.sh

in this, near the top, add

Code: Select all

export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
then restart the app and see if this works...
AS-604T
3 x ST4000DM0000 (Seagate 4TB) in Raid5
2 GB RAM expansion
AS-302T

Apps (user)
NZBGet - CouchPotato - SickBeard - Git - Python

Apps (maintainer):
NZBGet - BitTorrent Sync - Mylar - LazyLibrarian - Gamez
-Maintenance of Apps acquired from JohhnyFive since ADM2.0:
SABnzbd - CouchPotato - SickBeard - HeadPhones - Subsonic

Thanks again, Clinton.

This change worked great! Any new files with UTF-8 encoded names will now be backed up.

All I had to do afterwards was tell the Crashplan GUI to rescan and pick up all my existing encoded files. (i.e. Settings -> Verify selection every: -> Now)

I'm so glad the fix was so simple.
