No PPTP VPN access after upgrade to ADM 2.3.0.RBS1

Post by johan@mz.co.za »

Hi
I hava a PPTP VPN server working on 2 608T's, installed at two separate locations.

I use MS-CHAP v2 Authentication, with Max 128 bit encryption.

I have been unable to connect to either VPN server since ADM has been upgraded to version 2.3.0.RBS1.

I do however manage to connect when authentication is set to PAP. I have deleted, and re installed the VPN Server app and tested from various connections, PC's and locations. Firewall and Anti Virus disabled. All leads to the same results - I can connect with PAP authentication, but not with MS-Chap v2.

Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? Any advise would be appreciated.

Regards

Johan Smith

I have the same issue with PPTP after upgrading to ADM 2.3.0 RBS1. OpenVPN still works fine.

When trying to connect via PPTP on a Windows host I get a reply that the username/password or protocol is incorrect.
When looking at the VPN logs on the NAS I notice that the username is SYSTEM and not the username provided for the connection.
Hopefully that is helpful in troubleshooting this issue.

I've put in a support ticket with Asustor about this issue.
They have confirmed the bug and are working on fixing it.

They provided a temporary workaround by changing the authentication method to PAP.
I wouldn't recommend it though, as that will send your password in clear text.
It's better to use OpenVPN as a workaround, or even better to replace PPTP with.

OpenVPN is much more secure and firewall-friendly. ;)
