Relocating Default Paths

Post by basketballmail2 »

Hope the title isn't too confusing. When installing uTorrent it installs it and makes the paths on my system to /volume1/download/utorrent/xxx now I know how to set and move the normal paths like the current downloading and torrent location, but what I can't find is where I have to set the path for the uTorrent log file that sits in the download/utorrent/log/ folder. I would like to remove those folders that where created automatically by the utorrent install since I have my own structure I want to be using on the NAS.

I'm a Windows Admin, so I'm just getting used to the whole SSH and VI stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try looking in the config folder, there are various settings files...

However, the actual start-stop.sh (in the CONTROL directory) starts uTorrent and points it to this config file (you can manually edit this) and also creates the default directories on each start to ensure they exist (to prevent the program crashing)...

Take a look at the starts-stop.sh and fell free to ask if you need to know how to change anything.

Thanks Clinton I got it to work.

For anyone interested in moving everything away it can be done. You just have to go through the utorrent.config file and edit the file paths in there. Be sure to delete the settings.dat and settings.dat.old (they get rebuild when utorrent starts if they are missing)

You also have to modify the paths for the download directory in the scripts post-install.sh ; pre-install.sh; pre-uninstall.sh ; start-stop.sh

In order to remove the Default share that is created I had to delete it in the samba config file through ssh and also delete the directory through ssh.

this might not be the proper way to do it but I am learning by doing here.

I don't know what will happen when there is an update available to uTorrent, if the stuff will get changed again so you might want to keep those files backed up before you update them.

Clinton.hall can we expect the new assembly from you?
Thanks.

Thanks mss, I was waiting for a new version, but hadn't been checking their website too often.

Yes, I'll try and update this week if possible (a bit stretched for time... But I should get it out for testing)

Please test this version and let me know how it goes.

I'll send to AppCentral if it is working.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'll submit to AppCentral.

Hopefully the other issues are now resolved also...
