Physical Setup for PLEX

Post by Mellontes »

Looks like the only option is for me is to set up the Plex Media PLAYER on my laptop. My other choices just plain suck.

Plex Media Server will be on my NAS (and future NAS) - where all my media is.
I have Ethernet availability at the home theater.
I have HDMI availability at the home theater.
The NAS has Ethernet (obviously) and HDMI.
The laptop has Ethernet, WIFI, and HDMI. I have remote access to my laptop if connected via Ethernet.

My question is "Where should the NAS and laptop be placed and which is to be connected to the TV?"

My guess is Ethernet to NAS, NAS to receiver (Yamaha RX-V671), receiver to TV via HDMI (everything goes thru my receiver)
Ethernet to laptop (while on the floor near TV for Ethernet access), remote access to laptop for media player. Any difference in having the laptop connect wirelessly to access the media player so that I can have the laptop close to me by my favorite chair?

Is the actual physical setup covered in any of the forums here?
