【Newsletter#131】MyArchive and Snapshot Center – Defending Against Ransomware

Post by Carrie.Y@AST »

MyArchive cold backup technology turns a hard drive into a backup drive that can be hot swapped at any time. This allows for easy-to-make offline backups. With MyArchive, store important data on a MyArchive hard drive and place them in a secure location away from the NAS to keep archived data secure. MyArchive drives that use ext4 are able to set attributes and encrypt files to strengthen data protection. MyArchive drives using NTFS are easily read by Windows machine while Btrfs MyArchive drives support snapshots for extra data protection. When using a Btrfs MyArchive drive, ASUSTOR Snapshot Center enables both manual and scheduled snapshots ensuring that data can be quickly restored to a past version if data is lost, corrupt or damaged by ransomware.

When it comes to data security, prevention is always better than the cure. If you find that your NAS has been attacked by ransomware, what should be done? Unplug or otherwise disconnect from the Internet and delete all files on the NAS except backups. Once there is no evidence of the infection, use Snapshot Center to restore previously backed up files to an uninfected state, making your ASUSTOR NAS your partner in dealing with ransomware with proper backup measures.
