Re: port forwarding
I know I don't. but that's because I port forwarded on the router, rather than rely on a buggy and likely to fail uPnP connection that really doesn't work well.
Manually forwarding the ports ensures they are always open and the NAS can do it's job, inside or outside the LAN. uPnP is a nice idea on paper, but not reliable in practice. It's a lot like DLNA... Has a lot of shine, but no polish....
Don't get me wrong... This is a problem inherent on the routers and the implementation on them, not on the NAS itself. If you want/need reliability, forward all the ports you need for your apps on the router. Change the default ports required by apps to something obscure and unique to you, and make sure you monitor logs for security issues.
