MediaSonic 4 Bay eSata system

Post by wombat613 »

http://www.mediasonic.ca/product.php?id=1357292050
with Asus AS-608T

I plug it into either of the two eSata ports on the back.
Power on the NAS
MediaSonic has a detect power on which is required for eSata mode
The box detects the power on, and goes properly into eSata mode
I can not see any new hard drives in the management tools for the NAS

Not sure but will I have to issue some command lines to load/mount the external drive(s)?

The 4 bay runs as a multi-sata port, I am not sure if the eSata port on the 608T will read multiple drives. Otherwise it should see drive 1.

The system works properly in USB mode, sees all 4 drives as USB drives.

Thanks.

I think as-608 supports eSATA port multiplier function.

Did you try to plug eSATA box into nas after nas is powered on? I think you should send a support request to asustor. They should be able to check what's the problem.

Yes/No

In general plugging the media sonic into a powered on device does not work (it goes into stand by mode).

I did unplug it to try the USB, and replug it in to eSata and it did not go into stand by.

I figure if I SSH into the box and check it at the OS level I might find it. I will plug in my external eSata drive, to see if I get similar results when it comes to the Web Portal.

I use the hotway branded version of the 8bay mediatek via USB 3 and 2x vantec/hotway 4bay via esata without issue. However eSATA doesn't work via hotplugging in ADM, so best off powering down, connecting and booting the NAS again.
